Every year, the best theatre troupes in Vancouver put together a number of stages on the shore of Vancouver’s Vanier Park and stage several of William Shakespeare’s beloved classics. This year’s shows are among their best ever, and demand to be seen!

This classic comedy about a troupe of lovers who can’t admit their feelings finds new life in a new setting: on the set of a movie shoot in 1950s Italy. Directed by John Murphy, this production conjures the magic of the films of Fellini and will reaffirm your belief in the power of love.

A moving story about a family ripped apart by jealousy and violence, The Winter’s Tale is one of the lesser-known of Shakespeare’s works but absolutely  remains a compelling drama. Witness the healing of a royal family torn asunder. Directed by Dean Paul Gibson.

One of Shakespeare’s most beloved, and controversial, stories, The Merchant of Venice is as timely as ever as testament to love and the risks of venture capital. In this staging, directed by Nigel Shawn Williams,  the play is transformed by setting it in modern day Venice, lending urgency and drama to this timeless tale.

One of Shakespeare’s earlier comedies, The Two Gentlemen of Verona is very close to what I’d call a classic rom-com; Valentine and Proteus are best friends, but they are both in love with the same woman. How will they resolve their differences, and who will the lovely Sylvia choose?
